Despite much of the flamboyancy out in the purse market today (and I do appreciate it, really), some of us girls can’t help but stick to the classic- those bags that emulate nothing but impeccable taste. It’s not that we all wouldn’t love to own that one purse that has more bells and whistles on it than the rest on Madison Ave. have combined, and it’s not that we couldn’t pull it off. Oh, we could. It’s just that we sometimes prefer our purses to complement ourselves, not hold court all on their own.

This line of thinking presents a particular challenge when gold and silver come into the picture. Here you have solid colors, and yet, sometimes there is such thing as just too much gold or too much silver. Believe me, I know, because I’m currently living in Florence, and I acknowledge that the city is known for its gold, but having the entirety of merchandise from the Ponte Vecchio draped from one’s head to toes gives new meaning to the phrase “ghetto gold.” But I would still love a bit of shine hanging from my shoulder, which is why the current explosion of metallic bags is a welcome gift to those of us who were wishing for an undoubtedly tasteful pop.

Metallic is the answer, the moderation we were looking for. It shimmers, it shines, and it goes with black and brown! With colors like nickel, chrome, metal, bronze, and piambo, the metallics provide the option to show off with confidence, but not with too much flash for brunch with the boyfriend’s parents. It’s the perfect mix of power and grace, fun and class. Since everyone is doing it, the metallics can fit in various budgets, from the Andrew Marc Clutch at a very doable $195.00 at Bloomingdales, to the Prada Vitello Daino Tote at a much steeper $1,560.00. Whichever you decide on, it will be sure to gleam while maintaining the pristine!
