Bag Trends: The Student Handbag Survival Guide and Beyond

Thank goodness our Betty has returned from her academic hiatus. However, drowning in books, bags and exams has given one of our fashion student writers some serious inspiration on the way a student should carry "everything" in style.

It is usually 7:30am when I go to leave for class and do not return until 3pm and after sometimes, so I have to be prepared for anything that could happen in my day. I have to have my planner, my wallet, cell phone, and of course books! With all these things in my bag, I had to find one that would be durable, that could handle any weather condition, match everything, wouldn't kill my shoulder, and of course be fashionable. After doing much research and searching the web and department stores, I have found that 2 options for the best school bags which would be the large Longchamp or the Hervé Chapelier bag. Both bags retail for about $100 each and in my opinion, definitely worth the money.

I have had the Hervé Chapelier bag for about two years and it still looks new. The great thing about this particular bag is that it comes in many colors; the bottom and top are a different color and the base is another color. The one I currently use has a purple top and bottom while the base is brown. I am on my second Longchamp bag because I realized I needed a new color; and what I love about the Longchamp is that after using it for a while the handles get all soft because they are made out of leather. I have a navy and brown Longchamp bags and the navy one saw me through four years of high school, a year of college until I switched, and has been with me to Florida and Europe. Each bag is large enough to fit my books and all my other stuff that I will need for the rest of the day. Another great feature about the Longchamp and Hervé Chapelier bags is that they are great to use for overnight bags or as a carry on when traveling. I highly recommend these bags to other students because they really will last you a long time and always be fashionable.

My book bag is my survival kit during the week and on the weekends; I am ready to leave the heavy book bag at home and use something lighter. I love my COACH large leather hobo bag. It is the perfect bag for running around the city and it fits all I need for the day. I sometimes stuff it in my school bag if I am in a big rush in the morning. My hobo is winter white and goes with everything I own. It is a great bag to use for all seasons. I generally lean towards hobo bags because they easily stay on my shoulder.

I highly recommend the functionality, style and overall comfort of all of these bags. If you are a student or just someone who carries everything they own in one bag and decide to purchase one of the bags mentioned, I just have to say that you will most definitely be satisfied you did.

1. I agree about the Herve bags. They are all around great for school and are really resistent. I got my first one from France for my 13th birthday and with good care and washing, it still looks new.I've recently purchased 2 more, in different colors and models on Ebay and I'm very satisfied. The slight inconvenience with the popular 925 model (shaped like a trapeze) is that the base is sometimes not wide enough for all books, so wider books create dents on the side of the bag. This is why I oped for the rectangular model 905, more similar to Longchamp. - Kat from Quebec, April 29, 2007.
