As we transition from the carefree days of summer to fall, designers have given us revved up silhouettes with a bit of personality and kick. We’re seeing bags outfitted with elaborate hardware—whether it’s zipper-laden designs or dangerous looking spikes. All good reasons why you should stow away your functional, yet mundane black totes for a chic new look this season.
This fall’s winner may be Burberry’s Spiked Clutch. A true talking piece, and if anything, an alternative to a concealed weapon. It’s covered with long dangling copper, metal, and gold spikes. They say has it compartments that can fit accessories, a cell phone, and a few other necessities, but we’ll see how easy it is to maneuver through the hardware, If you’re lucky enough to be the right number on Burberry’s waiting list, you can snag this limited edition bag for $1,995. For the serious Uma Thurman Kill Bill types or just a sassy city girl, it’s worth it!
Next we have the D&G Lily Satchel, a rather large tote with a whole lot of zippers. Lily comes in small and medium sizes in a multi-patent, leopard, blue and green colors. Depending on size, the bag has either five or seven working zippers and plenty of compartments. I give credit to those who can use it successfully. Between balancing cell phone calls, searching for my lip gloss and keys, I’d surely get lost in this bag. Regardless, a great bag is far more important than organization!
Finally, YSL has given us another fantastic spin on your basic clutch. This “Muse” features exposed gold zipper teeth throughout with a prominent gold frame. It’s such a wonderful balance of sophistication mixed with a splash of punk glamour to keep our livelihood going all night long.
While all these bags are aesthetically fantastic, the functionality may be a stretch, but how silly of me to think that functionality trumps style. Plus, there’s no doubt that these bags would be a perfect addition to any wardrobe. Pair any of these bags with this season’s must-have spandex leather leggings and booties, and you’ll be ready to enjoy fall in style.
