In the course of my trend research, my findings show that the women of Columbia, South Carolina carry handbags that are (a) stylish, (b) functional and/or (c) a status symbol. The functional handbags are the classic, everyday handbags for keys, wallet, cell phone, etc. They are usually considered safe and rather boring to report, so I will jump to the chosen three that represent the bright colors handbag trend in the state’s capital. First, the exotic multi-colored clutch. I was on my way to work and had to stop a woman as she was getting on the elevator to question her arm candy. Occasionally I see her in passing and her outfits and accessories are always fun and trendy. The Nine West clutch was purchased at Belk on sale for $39.00 (regular price $59.00). Second, an oversized not-your-everyday tote, worn by a woman I work closely with, who recently started a designer handbag collection (thanks to my influence). The Marc Jacobs raspberry, soft quilted leather shoulder tote goes beyond style and crosses over to a status symbol. Priced at $1,295.00 and purchased from Neiman Marcus. I saved the best for last. The bold and beautiful Jimmy Choo Ramona handbag incorporates style and status. I did a double take when I first saw the gleaming yellow patent leather and drawstring detail. Priced above $1700.00, this is a handbag I thought I would see only in my dreams.
