Slotted Seam

Slotted Seam

Finished Product

This is used as a decorative seam. You will get the best results in straight, non-curving seams. Use gross grain, ribbon or any other 1-inch wide trim for the underlying strip of contrast color.

1) Finish the raw edge of each piece of fabric using your serger or a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine.
2) Fold each 5/8-inch seam under towards the wrong side of the fabric. Press flat.
3) Pin one seam along the center of the contrast trim and top-stitch ¼-inch along the fold of the fabric.
4) Pin remaining seam along the edge of the first seam and top-stitch ¼-inch along the edge of that fold.
