How to Miter a Corner
This technique explains mitering a finished ½ inch wide binding on quilted fabric.
1) Cut a 1-1/2 inch wide bias band to use for the binding.
2) Turn in one edge of the binding ¼ of an inch and press.
3) Baste or pin the raw edge of the binding to one side of the fabric. Sew a ¼ inch seam, beginning and ending the seam ¼ inch from the corners.
4) To miter the corner, fold the binding away from the fabric diagonally the width of the finished band (1/2 inch)
5) Continue to pin or baste the raw edge of the binding to the edge of the fabric and sew a ¼ inch seam, beginning and ending the seam ¼ inch from the corners.
6) Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the remaining sides of the fabric piece.
7) Turn binding towards the back of the fabric. Fold miters towards the center of the corner. Slipstitch each corner closed.
