| I am an architect and I grew up in a family full of
architects. I am a member of the artists’ co-op RHINO Gallery in New Orleans;
the gallery requires us to make all items ourselves. I made a bag to go along
with the DSLR camera I gave as a gift to my architect daughter who was going to
UK for further studies and it started from there. Now I have started selling on
Etsy under the name “Flying Fleur de Lis.”
I primarily use leather and minimal hardware or other decorations. I try to
distill my designs to the fewest and simplest visible elements. My bags and
leather bracelets use different colored leathers juxtaposed in a seamless edge
to edge joint.
I don't believe in making mistakes. When something goes wrong, I learn from it
and move on. The thing is I know what not to do the next time but nobody tells
me what to do next! A moment that recently happened that makes it all worth it
was when my artist friend saw the bag I made for her and saw the joy in her eyes
and when she said “I did not know that something so simple could be so
beautiful!”
