We are two very good friends that found ourselves creating a handbag that was beautiful and environmentally friendly. We were inspired by the natural beauty of the burlap. The natural color is so raw and versatile that it went well with any fabric that we chose; whether a pattern or solid. In the natural fibers of the burlap you can see slight imperfections that characterize the beauty of the fabric, making each Burlap Bag totally unique.

We combined burlap and recycled fabrics to create a unique design for each Burlap Bag. By searching for interesting fabrics and mixing different patterns together, each of our Burlap Bags had its own distinctive look. Burlap is one of the oldest materials so we thought, “why not add it to one’s wardrobe?” Not to mention that we thought it was a great way to help the environment while still being fashionable.

Our Burlap Bag was born about five years ago. We were both making a career change into the field of interior design when we met at school and became fast friends. Both of us knew we wanted to create something unique and when we saw draperies made out of burlap, we thought “why not a handbag?” So we created a bag that was green and pretty, yet could still satisfy all age groups.

Even though we knew exactly what we wanted to create, we first had to figure out how to use a sewing machine and then how to create our own patterns by trial and error. Once we figured it all out and started to wear the bags around town, we realized that all the effort that went into them was worth it. We were proud to present a handbag that was beautiful and welcomed by the earth friendly consumer.
