Story:

Presently I also work as an independent visual consultant for Chanel and Versace and on interior design projects. My design work (either with interior, display, costume or sets) has always reflected a concern with expressing transformation through materials available to each medium challenging the standard perception of parameters like space, light, color and dimension. I am using fashion as a means to express balance, lightness, volume and movement. The purpose of challenging preconceived ideas on what makes certain combinations fashionable or stylish, drew me to the creation of handbags that are primarily objects. I use different materials to re-establish a relationship with these concepts, creating feminine hand crafted purses. A new collection to be release in the fall is now in production.

The handbags are one-of-a-kind where I use unexpected combinations of different materials and textures exploring new approaches in order to establish a new relationship with them in the context of fashion. I delve into the nuances of each of these materials bringing them to the fore to create delicate hand crafted wearable objects. I explore the possibilities of mixing colorful fabrics, raffia, twine, ribbons, wire, stones and buttons, to create a range of different and intricate crafted bags. So far, my purses are owned by collectors, independent artists and those who support the arts, but it is not designed exclusive to them.

My line started with 4 purses, which were a test and an attempt to re-make a typical Brazilian craft bag I have. I was a friend's suggestion, and so I followed and met my first client, who became a dear friend, on the bus, when I wearing one of the bags - many of my private clients I met while wearing my purses.  4. I question pre-conceived aesthetics ideas to broaden and complement the relationship we have with them an so, craft as an ethnic, peasant or casual form of art mutates into an urban, mundane and sophisticated manifestation of creative expression.

My biggest nightmare was my first sale actually. The very first store I ever sold to was Bloomingdale's SoHo and although the bags were one of a kind they asked me to double 2 of them. ...I specially had a very hard time duplicating the size - on of them them I had to re-make 8 times! It was incredible! My greatest achievement has been to be able to create these small objects, sell to Bloomingdale's and the Artium Museum Store, and detach.
