I launched Tamara Handbags, a Boston based handbag company, in 2003. After graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in fashion design, I worked for prominent companies, Liz Claiborne and Ralph Lauren, in New York City for several years . I gained valuable experience in the fashion industry which gave me the background I needed. After 4 years in New York City, I was ready to make the move back to the Boston area. The timing was right to branch out on my own and launch Tamara Handbags. Currently, we have a loyal following of over 200 chic retailers and style-savvy women of all ages. Tamara Handbags offers a commitment to customer service, a dedication to product quality, and a promise to meld classic design with style and function. Tamara Handbags are polished and feminine; specializing in totes, satchels, shoulder bags, clutches, and wallets, constructed in unique fabrics and shapes. Tamara Handbags consist of modern patterns, classic styling with a timeless appeal, and functionality. The company strives to create handbags that are unique, fashion forward, and will reflect a customer’s personal style.

Fashionable fabrics, materials, and prints are incorporated into the line including polka dots, checks, plaids, stripes, paisleys, florals, tweeds, and corduroy. Tamara Handbags are trimmed with classic and luxurious faux leathers. I add special elements to each bag including contrast stitching, buckle detailing, and beautiful hardware. Inside each bag, I include bright colored, printed linings and organizational pockets for a cell phone, blackberry, keys, and the daily essentials. My signature heart logo hangs on each handbag along with my distinctive pink hangtag. I name and design the handbags after influential women in my life to add a special touch to every style.

I don' t have a specific nightmare story but a big challenge that I have faced so far is dealing with factories in China. It definitely takes time to develop a trusting relationship. I have worked with 4 different factories but I think I have finally found one I can trust with quality, timing, and dependability.

For the most part, I have learned everything on my own by trial and error. Every day is a learning experience for me. I try to stay positive and be persistent. Owning your own business is hard work but it is very rewarding and motivating. I enjoy hearing the enthusiasm from customers who continue to purchase handbags from our company every season. I hope that I will have continued success in the future. It has truly been incredible.
