| After working in the corporate world for several years
out of college, I decided to go back to school and follow my longing to design.
I began studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and shortly
thereafter, launched my own line of handbags. I am still in the process of
launching my website as my main focus has been exposure. Word of mouth has kept
me quite busy since I am the sole creator of patterns, line drawings, samples
and end product at this point. I will begin outsourcing as soon as the time is
right.
Since I was a child, I've been intrigued by my father's love and knowledge of
oriental rugs. My sister and I would attend seminars at the Textile Museum
frequently on weekends to watch him give lectures and the beauty of these pieces
has always stuck with me. As I got older, I loved the look of the antique
threadbare rugs more and more. I decided a long time ago that I would love to
design beautiful bags out of these fragments, lining them with high quality
leathers. I finally decided to start my own line because of the absolute pure
delight that I found every time I paired a beautiful fragment with a perfectly
complimented piece of leather. At this point, each antique rug fragment that I
use is well over 100 years old; therefore, each bag comes with an enclosure card
with a description of the background. One bag is completely unique from the
next.
Luckily, I have not experienced a major design catastrophe yet, as I do the
designing and manufacturing myself. If something major occurs, I am the one that
simply needs to fix the mistake or begin again. I would say that timing is
difficult to gauge. Everything may seem to fall into place with one bag and an
identical bag may take twice as long. What makes this all worth it is that
I never realized the satisfaction that one could get from another person's
happiness over something you've created. It is wonderful.
