I grew up in Windsor, Ontario and graduated from Windsor University with an MBA and attended the University of Toronto for undergrad. I have always had a flare for funky, something no one can deny. I founded Melissa Beth Designs is 2004. While lugging my laptop around in a horribly ugly laptop bag, I began to search for a fashionable laptop tote. Having my plight end in frustration I decided I would design my own fashionable laptop tote—and voila a business was born! What began as a “one-person show” now includes a team spread across North America. Melissa Beth Designs has sales reps in North America and Canada and distribution in Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Mexico and the UK.

We only use the highest quality materials, which differ depending on the item in question. All of our laptop totes have either a felt, velour, or canvas outer body. Our day bags are made using nylon, enabling the durability of these daily staples. The “Funk-tional Compartments” have a neoprene body with protective foam padding inside, and our “Luxe Funk-tional Compartment” is made of satin brocade. Additionally, all of our totes have a Teflon protective coating for stain resistance which we all know is almost as important.

Our target audience is women between the ages of 18-55. Most of our customers are tech-savvy and are tired of lugging around an ugly, boring bag. Fashion to me is an extension of self-expression and individuality. I enjoy designing bags that allow for this, that boldly set each person apart and makes each owner feel as unique.

My greatest achievement was making my dream come true. To be able to wake up every day and work at something that I find truly fulfilling and other people respond to, is truly amazing.
