I have moved eight times in seventeen years. My family
includes a husband, four teenage children and two dogs. I have always been
incredibly creative and have a love of handbags. My most recent move to Wyoming
inspired me to get back into knitting. Not one to stick with tradition, I began
creating handbags out of yarn.
I have been in business for three years. My business keeps growing and I love
what I do everyday. I sell my bags on my web site through boutiques and at art
shows. Jack and Mary handbag are made for women who like to wear something
different than everybody else. The shapes are traditional but the wool, linings
and embellishments add a unique flair to the bags. I use recycled interior
design fabrics for the linings and try to use recycled necklaces for the handles and trims.
After moving to Wyoming and closing a successful east coast interior design
business I was looking for a new venture. The one constant in my careers has
always been fibers. I always loved to knit and work with fabrics. I decided to
combine the two and thus began my felted handbags business. Jack and Mary
handbags are all 100% handmade in the USA using recycled materials when
possible.
My most recent nightmare was that I originally had my home phone number on my
website. One night a woman called very late and wanted to order 10 bags that she
wanted for gifts and she needed them in two days!. Back then, I was not very
good at updating my site and did not actually have any of these bags in my
inventory. Needless to say, I did fulfill the order but did not get much sleep
for two days.
My greatest accomplishment so far is that I love what I do and feels that it
shows in my work. My greatest achievement has been having my handbags featured
on an HGTV segment and on a Wyoming news program. What makes doing what I do
worth it is seeing the look on shoppers faces when they see all my bags on
display and of course when they make a purchase. |
