Story:In 2000 I graduated from the Fashion Institute of
Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, where I studied fashion design.
At that time I made a decision not to pursue a formal career in the fashion
industry, but have been designing and sewing ever since. In early 2006 I started
making a few handbags for friends and family members and decided that it was
something that I wanted to do as a career. From there … Bella Bags by Marcía was
born.
My focus is on being part of the Indie Culture and to me that encompasses both
individuality and independence from that which is mainstream. I am very proud
that all of my bags are Indie designed and constructed in the Berkshires of
Massachusetts, but also of the fact that all of my bags are sewn on a high
quality industrial sewing machine using durable fabrics and #69 bonded nylon
thread. #69 is a heavy duty, 100% nylon, sewing thread that is designed for
superior strength, stretch and recovery, as well as having excellent resistance
to chemicals, bacteria, mildew, wear and abrasion.
I offer 100% handmade handbags, totes, diaper bags, book bags, yoga mat bags,
gym bags, make-up bags, sunglass bags and more. Every Bella Bag, aside from my
organic shoppers, is 100% unique. My customers can purchase a completed bag or
create their own bag by contacting me through the website.
My business is still in its first year, so I don’t yet have any major nightmare
stories yet! I can say that dealing with the department of revenue when I was in
Arizona was a bit of an ordeal, but it all worked out in the end. What I feel is
my greatest achievement so far would have to be my first order from Italy. I
knew that it would happen eventually, but it sure felt good to pack up the bag
and actually ship it out to my first foreign customer. I definitely look forward
to the many achievements that await me in my future! |
