| I am the designer of Amber Mikaille Couture (Mikaille
is pronounced Me - Kell), which is named after my daughter. I specialize in
mini-clutch bags that are ideal for holding the simple things -- ID, cash, & car
keys. I buy denim, cotton, satin, and rayon to construct my bags. Most of them
are lined with denim, and on select bags, ribbons are added to give vibrant
color. My target audience is teens & young women with a prissy, yet funky style.
I am continually inspired by Japanese fashion and abstract art... anything with
lots of color! My bags are special because all of them are designed by hand, and
sewn with perfection.
I got my line started actually after watching Project Runway for the first time
in 2006, and said, "I can do that too." So I decided that I would start out by
making purses. At first, I was sewing by hand, until I bought myself a sewing
machine. All of the sudden, I fell in love with fashion, and it's been a great
creative outlet for me ever since! Currently, I am designing tote bags for those
women who need more to carry around with them. Also, a makeup line is also in
the works, so stay tuned for lip gloss and eye shadow products to be released.
One time I thought my sewing machine had some parts broken when my daughter
knocked it off the table. I was so distraught, but everything turned out fine.
Luckily, I haven't had any REAL nightmare experiences. My greatest achievement
was simply putting my fears of running a business behind me and finally stepping
out into the limelight to show the world what I have to offer. That was a big
step for me. It's all worth it because this is what I love to do, and I know I
will succeed because I put my heart into this. And besides, failure is not an
option for me. I'm doing this not only for me, but for my child. |
