| I am paper artist and designer and so I create
different objects with paper. One kind of these objects are the bags. They are
constantly developing and I consider each bag as a kind of sculpture. As a
collector of papers of all kinds for many years I discovered the collage one day
- and - as a former painter - the opportunity to paint with this wonderful
material. So I "paint" with paper, all kinds of paper: new, old, used, simple,
strange, usual or unusual. The form of the bags is made with wire. Layer for
layer the paper hides this form and the last covering layer is the collage.
Finally varnished each bag is unique.
The work with the material paper offers a wide range of ideas. First of all I
simply did collages, then I started to form with wire and cover it with paper.
After bowls, lamps, different kinds of jewelry and sculptures I had the idea to
create bags. It is fascinating to see how light and at the same time strong and
solid the combination of those two materials is. The interesting thing is,
that each of my bags is a sculpture. You can go out and use it for shopping but
at the same time it is a work of art. So you can decide to put it into a
show-case or go outside with it.
The biggest nightmare that anyone who uses these materials is 'syrupy or
sugar-coated stuff' which is meant very serious - in other words - it is not
something you want to happen. The most interesting thing is that there are
still a billion of possibilities left to design with the material paper. It is
great fun and this is the main reason why it is all worth it.
