When I design, I do try to create things that I would love, but I also try to think of what I like in different moods. To me each handbag goes with a specific look, but that look is born out of an emotion. I try to see each angle of femininity and fill that nook. I would find a void in my own wardrobe and make something to fill it. It grew from there to making things for others.  People would see me carrying a handbag I created, and would ask for something for themselves. This is why I started making bags by order for others in my spare time. I love being able to create something that is perfect for someone's personality, style and needs.

Because I come from a textile background, I really try to accentuate the materials being used. You can have a beautiful fabric or skin, but if you miss use it you might as well have horrible materials. I really try to think about what a material can do and try to bring out its best qualities. I also feel its important not to only stick to traditional materials. I love using upholstery fabric on bags and house-wares for hardware. Each bag is designed, patterned, and constructed by me. They are all one of a kind. For example, the bag selected was definitely a study of nontraditional hardware. Both the front knob and the bag's handle are drawer pulls from a home store. I really tried to incorporate these pieces so that their original purpose would not be automatically reviled. Even if I keep the same silhouette, the fabrication is always different. This keeps them all fresh, up to date, and personal. I feel that no one likes walking down the street and seeing your same bag walking towards you. This definitely prevents that from happening.

I haven't had any real nightmares as of yet, just a bunch of frustrations. I find that time is the biggest hindrance I have. I also work a design job for a company now, so I have even less time then I did when I was still in school. I wish I had more time to create handbags because I love the whole process; from designing them, to construction, and then to finally have a finished product.

I wouldn't say I had a greatest achievement at this point in my life, but I will say being in this industry is a very large accomplishment for me. I started early in my life knowing I wanted to be in the fashion industry. I did summer programs in fashion design at art colleges while still in high school, and then studied textile and accessories design in college. If I must have a greatest achievement in my short 22 years, I would say that not giving up my dream of making it would have to be it.
