| With a background in Fashion and Interior Design, I began creating a collection of fashion handbags at my in home studio in Binghamton, NY. The first bag I made was a diaper bag when I was pregnant with my first child, Derek. In 1990 the choices in diaper bags were very limited and I wanted something stylish to use. I received so many compliments on the bag that I continued to use it as an every day bag. Many years later, with extra fabric lying around from various sewing and interior design jobs, I created a smaller version of the original bag, now called the Signature Style. I then dove in full force and had my first Fashion Show in November of 2004. Pleased with the response I took my profits to NYC for a fabric buying trip. Along with a vision, months of research, hard work, dedication, love and support from my family, especially my husband Todd, is what has gotten me to the place I am today. My daughter, Taylor, models for our advertising campaigns and now my son, Derek, completed the family affair by being one of the mc's at the annual Fall Fashion Show. The growth of the company is moving at a nice pace, one that I can handle until my kids are grown and off to college. Then it's off to trade shows and who knows where.... Dream Big...
Cutting the fabric from commercial patterns is not the route that we take. Only patterns made from my unique styles are used as the fabric guides the way to the finished creative design. This concept helps to ensure the guarantee of a one of a kind fashion bag collection. The goal of MIS is to have women carry a bag that no one else will have. Due to the soft, non structured design concept, I feel that MIS Fashion Bags should be considered more like a piece of clothing, an extension of your wardrobe and your true style. It is also a great inexpensive way to update your wardrobe according to the latest fashion trends with out having to buy the trendy expensive clothing. I enjoy digging through the mounds of fabric in the garment district of NYC to find that unique fabric to create something fabulous.
My bags are made of fabric which allows you to carry all your daily essentials with out weighing you down. Leather tends to get heavy just on its own and then you add all your 'stuff' ...It is sometimes to heavy to carry. My trademark symbol is a brass angel which is sewn onto every bag in the left top corner. This angel represents many things, that we are never alone and someone is always with us watching over us.
As of yet, no disaster stories. Usually what happens with a mistake, it can turn into a really cool and innovative design idea and you can end up looking like a design genius. One of my biggest dreams as a child was to become a designer and I am doing it. It is never too late to start fulfilling a child hood dream. All the paths I have taken in my life have just been stepping stones to get me to this point and will help to carry my company through to the future. I cannot tell you what a thrill it is to be out shopping and see my bag being carried on someones arm. As long as the customer contiues to purchase and carry my bags, MIS Fashion Bags will exist.
